Access to Kyoto
Access to Kyoto
The conference venue, Uji Campus of Kyoto University, is located in Kyoto, Japan.
In Kyoto, there are three (3) Kyoto University campuses, but Nanobubble2024 will be held at one of them, “Uji Campus.”
Uji Campus can be easily accessed on foot from “Obaku Station” (either “Keihan Railway Uji Line” or “JR Nara Line”).
Access to Kyoto Station from “Kansai International Airport (KIX)” or “Osaka International Airport (ITAMI)”
There are two major airports around the city of Kyoto; “Kansai International Airport (or KIX)” and “Osaka International Airport (or ITAMI)”.
ITAMI is used for domestic flights in Japan, while KIX is used for both domestic and international flights.
From KIX, you can take one of the following three (3) ways to get to Kyoto Station:
1) Train: Kansai Airport Express “Haruka” (about 80 minutes/3,640 JPY)
2) Limousine Bus (recommended) (about 90 minutes/2,800 JPY)
3) Taxi (about 120 minutes or more/5,000 JPY or more)
From ITAMI, you can take one of the following four (4) ways to get to Kyoto Station:
1) Train (about 75 minutes/1,000 JPY or more)
2) Limousine Bus (recommended) (about 50 minutes/1,340 JPY)
3) Taxi (about 45 minutes or more/15,000 JPY or more)
4) Shared Taxi (Smart Shuttle) (about 45 minutes/2,980 JPY)
Access to Kyoto Station from “Narita” or “Haneda” Airports
There is an express bullet train called Shinkansen, which frequently runs between Tokyo Station and Kyoto Station about every 15 minutes. It takes about 2 hours and 15 minutes.
And there are two international airports around Tokyo; Haneda Airport and Narita Airport.
Please note these two airports are often indicated as “Tokyo” but they are actually different airports.
If you are traveling from Haneda Airport, you should first go to Tokyo (or Shinagawa) Station by train, and then take a Shinkansen train to Kyoto Station. It takes about 30 minutes from Haneda Airport to Tokyo Station, or you can get off at Shinagawa Station because Shinkansen trains also stop at Shinagawa.
Since the express bullet train Shinkansen frequently runs between Tokyo Station and Kyoto Station about every 15 minutes, you usually do not need to reserve a ticket in advance. You can buy a Shinkansen ticket at a ticket window or vending machine in Haneda Airport or Tokyo Station (or Shinagawa Station) after you arrive in Japan.
On the way back to Tokyo from Kyoto, you can buy a Shinkansen ticket in the same way.
Of course, reservations are possible. Please see the following website:

If you are arriving at Narita Airport when you first enter Japan, you can take a domestic flight from Narita to KIX or ITAMI. If you prefer traveling to Kyoto by train, you can take a “Keisei Skyliner” train from Narita Airport to Nippori Station, which is about 40 minutes. There, you should change trains for Yamanote-Line and go as far as Tokyo Station, which will take about 12 minutes. Then you should take a Shinkansen train from Tokyo to Kyoto.
A Keisei Skyliner ticket from Narita Airport to Nippori Station is 2,570 JPY per person, and a ticket from Nippori to Tokyo is 160 JPY. If you prefer not changing trains, there is another train called “JR Narita Express,” which will directly take you from Narita Airport to Tokyo Station. A one-way ticket of JR Narita Express is 3,470 JPY, and it will take 1 hour from Narita Airport to Tokyo Station.
Please note that trains in Japan usually do not operate all day. The first train of the day can be available around 6:00 AM or later, and the last train around 0:00 AM or earlier, but this differs among railway companies.
In case you arrive at Narita Airport or Haneda Airport later than 4:00 PM, we recommend that you stay at a hotel near the airport (or in Tokyo) for the first night, and move to Kyoto the next morning.
